Hi, I'm Richard, Founder & Director of Compound Paraplanning.

About me and my role:

My career in Financial Services began in 2011 when I worked as an Administrator for a local (but National) Equity Release provider. I enjoyed the role but learned that the Financial Services world was so much bigger, which is when I moved to a well-respected firm of Chartered Financial Planners in 2013.

I joined as an Administrator and learned so much about Financial Planning. I wanted to know more and do more so within 2 years I obtained my Regulated Diploma via the PFS and subsequently earned a promotion into the Paraplanning team. Again, I learned so much and after close to 5 years for this firm, I was offered a role as Paraplanning Team Leader for a Financial Planning firm in Kendal.

This new role was challenging but very rewarding and helped shape who I am today. There was the technical aspect of the role, the teaching & developing aspect and also the people aspect. Positive behaviours, negative behaviours, decisions made by senior management that I liked and the decisions I disliked – all of these factors helped shaped me into the type of leader that I want to be.

Following a short stint for another firm, my mind was made up and I knew that I wanted to set up an Outsourced Paraplanning business, and Compound Paraplanning was born.

I believe that the end product in Financial Planning should be easy for clients to understand and that we should not be throwing everything into a Suitability Report as an appendix, just to make us feel more comfortable. I believe in that and many Compliance firms we have worked with approve!

Who am I at home?

I am married to Claire and am a proud Father to two beautiful children. Family is very important to me and we try to spend as much time together as possible – this is why I drag them over the Pennines with me every other week to watch Huddersfield Town (lose).

As a family, we want to spend time outdoors. We have planned (and started) to climb all of the Wainwrights together and aim to go camping in our huge 9-person air tent at least 4 times a year.

Our four key elements for paraplanning success:

“A thing that is composed of two or more separate elements; a mixture.”

Expertise & Excellence

The term suggests expertise and excellence: The term "compound" implies that the Paraplanning services offered by our business are of a high quality, and that our team has excellent knowledge and experience in Financial Planning.

Collaborative

When attributing this to the Financial Planning industry, we suggest that our Paraplanners will work closely with our clients, bringing various elements of the process together, to create customised outputs that are tailored to your client's unique situation.

Unique

It's unique: ‘Compound Paraplanning’ is not commonly used in the Financial Planning industry, which we believe will help our company stand out from competitors and make a memorable impression on our potential clients.

Memorable

It's easy to remember: We believe that ‘Compound Paraplanning’ has a nice ring to it and is easy to remember, which is important when it comes to creating a brand that our clients will remember and (hopefully) refer to others.
